NOW® Betaine HCl is designed to support optimal digestive conditions in the stomach. Hydrochloric acid (HCl), naturally produced in the stomach, aids protein digestion by activating pepsin, helps maintain a healthy balance of gut flora, and stimulates the release of intestinal enzymes. Pepsin, a protease produced in the stomach, plays a key role in partially breaking down proteins from food. Since HCl production tends to decrease with age, supplementing with HCl and pepsin may help maintain normal digestive function. This product features a vegetarian, acid-stable protease with activity similar to animal-derived pepsin
